John had been fiddling with her card for the rest of the afternoon. He really thought about it - really thought about calling her and asking her out on a date. She couldn't have had a boyfriend, right? Otherwise she wouldn't have given him her number. But then maybe she just wanted to "hang out" with no romantic connotations...or maybe he was just over thinking it. It was so unlike John to over think things. He had, after all, been called a "hot head" by the late, great Peter Foley.

But then Bane and Batman had messed everyone up. "Fuck it," he said under his breath and dialed her number on his cell phone.

"Okay," she said. "I'm in the Crown Plaza up on 53rd."

He nodded again and wiped his mouth with his napkin.

She pushed the slice of pie towards him.

He smiled, took a forkful and ate it.

"It's really good," she said as she took her own big fork full.

"I know."

She smiled and ate another bite.

John wiped his mouth with his napkin just as the waitress came over with their bill.

She smiled at the waitress before taking a last bite of her pie.

John took out his wallet and laid some money on the table to cover their food and tip.

"Do you want to finish it?" she asked, indicating to the rest of the pie in between them. Most of the ice cream had melted around it.

"Waste not, want not." He picked up his fork again and finished the pie.

She smiled as she watched him.

"You're an interesting guy, John," she said.

[gcpd]

"Yeah? Why's that?"

She shrugged.

"I don't know exactly," she said. "You present yourself as an every-man, Joe-schmo, slightly rough around the edges city guy, but you've got a lot going on under all that. There's a lot more to you. I guess I find that interesting."

"Isn't there a lot going on under the surface with everybody?" He asked.

"You'd be surprised," she said with a smirk. She'd been in a few minds who really were as dull on the inside as they were on the outside.

"Maybe I'm just more interested in you."

[gcpd]

He grinned just as the waitress came to pick you the tab. She thanked them both and wished them a good night. John nodded in thanks. "Want me to drive you back to your hotel?"

"Yeah, sure," she said with a smile. "If you don't mind."

"I don't mind." John got up from the booth.

She got up as well.

"Lead the way then," she said.

[gcpd]

They walked side by side back up the block to his building. His car was parked around the corner.

"This SUV looks familiar," she said as they came up on the car.

[gcpd]

"Yes..." He said, not sure what she was getting at. "It's mine." He opened the front passenger door for her.

She smiled.

"I know," she said. "I remember it from this morning. Remember?"
