John had been fiddling with her card for the rest of the afternoon. He really thought about it - really thought about calling her and asking her out on a date. She couldn't have had a boyfriend, right? Otherwise she wouldn't have given him her number. But then maybe she just wanted to "hang out" with no romantic connotations...or maybe he was just over thinking it. It was so unlike John to over think things. He had, after all, been called a "hot head" by the late, great Peter Foley.

But then Bane and Batman had messed everyone up. "Fuck it," he said under his breath and dialed her number on his cell phone.

"I know...you don't really know me," she said. "But...I'm a good listener...if you want to talk about any of it."

He waved at her dismissively. "I don't want to weigh you down with my problems."

She shrugged.

"You shouldn't try to carry them all yourself either," she said.

Maybe it was his resemblance to Arthur that was making her feel connected to him in some way or maybe it was her need to fix things, but she wanted to help him somehow. He looked kind of...lost.

"Really, it's okay, Ari." The only person who really knew his problems was Lucius Fox. John had been in contact with him about the Batman...about the suit. "I'll be fine, I promise."

She looked at him and then put her hands up.

"Okay, okay," she said. "Then why don't you smile and try to have a little fun then?"

She gave him a smile and poked his foot under the table.

He huffed out a laugh.

"That's better," she said with a grin.

"What about you? Any problems you need to vent?"

[inyourdreams]

"Not at the moment," she said.

[gcpd]

"So, got any man in your life?" It suppose to come off as teasing, but John was a bit more interested int he answer than he was letting on.

"Not at the moment," she said. There had been one here and there. Mostly short-lived trysts in between jobs. No one she really cared too much for. She still held a candle for a certain Point Man, but the only time she even saw or heard from him was in a business capacity. There wasn't really time to get close to anyone lately.

He nodded thoughtfully, feeling a ping of guilt that he was happy she wasn't in fact attached to anyone.

"So, no, I'm not the kind of girl who gives a man her number when she's got another at home," she said in a teasing voice.

"Well, that's good to know...I think." He grinned.

She smiled back.

[gcpd]

"Are you hungry? There's a diner on the corner. They have the best apple pie," he suggested.

[inyourdreams]

"i can never pass up a good diner," she said. "Or pie."

[gcpd]

John paid for their drinks and then got up, offering her his elbow.

She god up and took his arm.

"Thank you for the drinks," she said.

[gcpd]

"You're welcome." He led her out of the bar and down the sidewalk. "Be careful when you're out in Gotham at night."

"I know," she said. "I've heard all the stories and warnings."

[gcpd]

He nodded. He was doig his best keeping the streets safe. But he still had a lot to learn.

"I'm also pretty versed in self-defense," she said. And firearm use. But she wouldn't mention that.

[gcpd]

"Guess you don't need a big strong man, huh?"

[inyourdreams]

"No," she said. "But it doesn't mean I don't want one."

She grinned.
