John had been fiddling with her card for the rest of the afternoon. He really thought about it - really thought about calling her and asking her out on a date. She couldn't have had a boyfriend, right? Otherwise she wouldn't have given him her number. But then maybe she just wanted to "hang out" with no romantic connotations...or maybe he was just over thinking it. It was so unlike John to over think things. He had, after all, been called a "hot head" by the late, great Peter Foley.

But then Bane and Batman had messed everyone up. "Fuck it," he said under his breath and dialed her number on his cell phone.

"I know," she said. "I've heard all the stories and warnings."

He nodded. He was doig his best keeping the streets safe. But he still had a lot to learn.

"I'm also pretty versed in self-defense," she said. And firearm use. But she wouldn't mention that.

"Guess you don't need a big strong man, huh?"

[inyourdreams]

"No," she said. "But it doesn't mean I don't want one."

She grinned.

He smiled at her just as they reached the diner.

She ducked into the building ahead of him, breathing in the scent of coffee and fried foods.

A waitress told them to sit wherever they wanted and as she made her way to a booth by the window she wondered what she was doing. She knew it was a bad idea for her to get involved with anyone. But a night at the bar and some harmless flirting wasn't really getting involved. And he was terribly cute. She decided to just not think about it and enjoy the company.

John looked at the menu. "I think I could use a burger on top of the apple pie," he mused aloud.

"Go for it," she said as she looked over her own menu. "I ate dinner, but I might have to get some fries."

"Get whatever you want, it's on me," he said as he set the menu down.

[inyourdreams]

"You really don't have to John," she said.

[gcpd]

He shrugged. "I want to." John didn't really have a lot in the bank since he was jobless, but he'd ask her to have a drink with him.

She didn't really feel right having him pay her way when she knew he was unemployed and that she had more money than she knew what to do with.

"Okay, but if we do this again, it's my treat," she said.

"Deal." He smiled over at her when the waitress came over to take their order.

She ordered some fries and a slice of apple pie a la mode with a coffee.

He ordered a burger and fries and a cup of coffee as well.

"No pie for you?" she asked as the waitress left.

[gcpd]

He shook his head. "Not tonight."

[inyourdreams]

"Well, you'll have to eat some of mine," she said. "I doubt I'll be able to eat the whole piece."

"If you insist."

The waitress came back with their coffee. John added some sugar and cream before taking a sip.

She did as well, sitting back as she sipped her coffee. She looked out at the people passing on the street.

"Are you a fan of Gothic Revival?" He asked.

[inyourdreams]

She looked back at him.

"I am, as an historical architectural movement," she said with a nod. "Not exactly how I'd design my house or anything."

She smiled.

[gcpd]

"That's what most of the buildings in Gotham are modeled after. Or so the plaques on the buildings say."

[inyourdreams]

She nodded.

"As did my architectural books," she said. "I've been to some of the buildings. The cathedral, the train station. They're all very beautiful. And interesting in contrast to some of the more ultra modern buildings that have gone up in the past couple decades."
